The OSTRC Shoulder Injury Prevention Programme reduced the risk of shoulder problems in elite handball by 28%, and the risk of substantial shoulder problems by 22%. (Andersson et al. 2017) The RCT (linked below) involved 660 elite Norwegian handball players and aimed to evaluate the effects of an exercise programme designed to reduce the prevalence of shoulder problems in elite handball. This video (part 1) demonstrates some of the preventative exercises described in the study. Thanks to Ben Shaw for a fantastic Blog on his race season. We are delighted to be part of the team.

The 2017 season has been a consistent and successful one, which was unfortunately impacted on by illness in the last couple of weeks. The life of an athlete seems to be walking a fine line between superb fitness and performing in difficult or less than optimal conditions. Great exercise for posterior cuff/scapular muscles! By Rehab Science! 😊 Here the original Instagram post: ・・・ πŸ’₯Shoulder Exercise for AthletesπŸ’₯ ----------- "Hey throwers and racquet sport athletes, checkout this great exercise from @repair_sports_institute. Whether you are recovering from a shoulder injury or looking to reduce your risk of suffering an injury, training the rotator cuff should be a component of your plan. ・・・ Rotator cuff eccentrics play a critical role in injury prevention of the shoulder for overhead athletes. The horizontal weighted ball catches in the 90/90 position target the very important 'breaking' muscles of the throwing/racquet arm. Training deceleration is just as important as training acceleration!"
