Deirdre has been a qualified Operating Department Practitioner with a special interest in orthopaedic surgery for the last 12 years. She also specialised in Anaesthetics and Critical Care. She then trained as a Sports/Physical therapist and has established a successful practice in York.

Her experience ranges from mature patients with mobility problems to elite athletes seeking to optimise their performance. This has included international triathletes, professional footballers, professional rugby players, professional golfers, plus many sub-elite club athletes.

She was a winning member of the BT Swimathon team.

As a triathlete herself, Deirdre has represented Ireland at the ITU World Triathlon Championships in Switzerland in 2006, thus giving her first hand experience of the performance/injury issues faced by many athletes over their sporting career. She offers a professional individual service geared to the requirements of each individual.

Deirdre is a member of the International Institute of Health, Fitness and Sports Therapists and a member of the Healthcare Professional Council. Deirdre has gained the podiatech qualification and is the Biomechanical Specialist for the Leinster Sports Clinic.

Chris Simpson BSc (Hons), MBASES, Mhpc

Chris has 24 years experience working as an Operating Department Practitioner, working in the NHS, the private sector and abroad. During this time, he has specialised in anaesthetics and critical care.

Over the last 10 years, his interest in cardiopulmonary exercise testing of high risk surgical patients has developed, which has involved testing many athletes as well as patients. Having attended many related courses in both the UK and the USA, this has served to develop his broad knowledge base. Additionally, he passed the Transmart Ltd examination in metabolic assessment and exercise testing, meaning that he can perform V02 max testing and lactate testing, amongst many others.

From the early 1990s onwards, Chris has taken an active coaching role in both triathletes and runners, including coaching his wife to the World Triathlon Championships in 2006.

Chris's own sporting achievements are many.....

  • He represented City of York in Rugby League and Rugby Union from age 11 to 16.
  • He represented various clubs in Rugby Union and Basketball from age 19 to 26.
  • He's a keen road runner and is as happy doing 5kms as the full marathon.
  • He has competed in many triathlons, with distances ranging from sprint up to half Ironman.
  • In 2001, Chris was a member of the winning team in the BT Swimathon.
  • In 2006 and 2007, he completed the Etape du Tour in France.... completing it and gaining a silver and bronze medal.
